Gamescript is a concept introduced by Chase Stuart
at Football Perspective.
The idea is to calculate the average score differential over every second of every game for each NFL team. The code used for my graphs was heavily influenced by
written by Kevin Cole.
What is ARIMA?
ARIMA stands for "autoregressive integrated moving average." In general
helps you make better forecasts when data is correlated with
data from the past. In the NFL this is not always extremely useful since teams and coaches change from year to year. However, when all else is held constant, ARIMA can lead to a better
prediction for the upcoming season. It also allows us to give a ceiling and floor estimate for our predictions. For a tremendous explanation and example of the use of ARIMA models in a football context
see Danny Tuccitto at Intentional Rounding.
